Words of hope. You CAN beat this. I don’t know how I got bed bugs, but suspect they came in a package ordered online. I work nights, my first bites were in my recliner as I am up all night watching tv most nights off. I must be highly allergic, I. burned like I was on fire. I quickly realized I was only getting bites when in the recliner. I inspected and worst case confirmed. I had them. I researched and was sooo depressed at the stories I read. I called a pest company, the day before they arrived I wrapped the recliner in plastic, taped it closed, hauled it out abd destroyed it. Bought a steamer and steamed my couch, found no bugs. Steamed my mattresses, found 2-3 small ones on my side of the bed. Put bed bug mattress covers and raped the zippers. Washed all my linens in hot water. Put all pillows and quilts in dryer. Then made bed. Washed and dried all clothing in my room, bagged and sealed and did not bring back to bedroom. Pest guy came and sprayed, then dusted diatomaceous earth. He only found one live bug on my couch. I placed double side tape glue traps under all furniture legs. I washed bed linens every other day and put pillows and quilts through hot dry cycle ever other day for 2 weeks. I saw one big in glue traps, so I bought diagnose earth and sprayed all baseboards in my house, my headboard, couch and between mattresses after steaming furniture again. Pest guy came back and rechecked, no bugs found. He used tools to check cracks between basebords. Nothing found. I continued changing linens every other day, drying pillows and quilts every other day and now added vacuuming the diatomaceous earth and reapplying every week. It’s been 4 weeks, no bites and no bugs in glue traps. It’s been labor intensive but very effective. I plan to continue my routine another month. Oh, I also took down all curtains and dust ruffles, washed an sealed them. Will not replace for 3months if I remain bug free. It can be done, but you have to be diligent and not let up on your routine. Steam, pesticides and most important diatomaceous earth. Wash, wash wash. Good luck. Bed bug fact sheet.
